The II International Week of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FCCEE) has come to a close with an exceptional highlight: a deep immersion into the historical heritage and origins of our institution.
An Exclusive Visit to the Hospital Real
The final day focused on the emblematic Hospital Real, a 16th-century landmark founded by the Catholic Monarchs and current seat of the University Rectorate. International delegates explored its majestic courtyards, where the parallel evolution of the University and the city of Granada was recounted, merging our Renaissance past with modern academic management.
A key highlight was the rare access granted to areas usually closed to the public, such as the cell of Saint John of God (San Juan de Dios), allowing our partners to discover the more profound historical and human aspects of the building.
Bibliographic Treasures and Foundational Origins
The journey continued at the Hospital Real Library, where our colleague María provided a masterclass on the immense documentary heritage held by the UGR. With a collection exceeding 80,000 volumes, attendees learnt about the origins of these archives and the University's foundation, marked by the Papal Bull signed by Pope Clement VII in 1531, which granted official academic status to our institution.
